Achilles Carbon Reduce Scheme
Powering a Greener Future 11-03-2025
At Glenfield Invicta, Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We recognise the importance of reducing environmental impact and we are committed to playing our part in building a more sustainable, greener future. That’s why we are proud to announce that, following a rigorous two-stage audit, Achilles has confirmed that we meet the requirements of the Carbon Reduce Scheme and has recommended us for certification.
This achievement is a significant milestone in our sustainability journey, showcasing our commitment to environmental responsibility, carbon reduction, and continuous improvement. It also provides our customers and partners with full transparency regarding our carbon footprint, enabling us to work together towards a greener future.
One of the standout highlights of our sustainability efforts is our fully sustainable electricity supply. Through the Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO) scheme, we ensure that 100% of the electricity used at Glenfield Invicta comes from renewable sources.
What is the Achilles Carbon Reduce Programme?
The Achilles Carbon Reduce Programme, which is certified to the internationally recognised ISO 14064-1 standard, is designed to help organisations measure, manage, and reduce their carbon footprint. It provides independent verification of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data and ensures businesses are meeting sustainability best practices.
By becoming certified, Glenfield Invicta has taken a science-based approach to carbon reduction, demonstrating that our carbon footprint calculations are accurate and aligned with the UK Government’s Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) requirements. This certification helps to document our carbon reduction targets, further reinforcing our commitment to sustainability.
The Audit Process
Achieving certification in the Achilles Carbon Reduce Scheme required us to undergo a detailed two-stage audit. This assessed how we measure, manage, and reduce our environmental impact, ensuring that our sustainability initiatives are both effective and measurable.
Stage One: On-Site Assessment
The first stage of the audit took place over a full day at our Kilmarnock site. Achilles auditors conducted a detailed review of our operations, focusing on how we measure and manage our environmental impact. This included an assessment of our sustainability initiatives, waste separation efforts, and overall approach to carbon reduction.
Stage Two: In-Depth Data Review
The second stage was an extensive 3-day audit, which examined the accuracy of our environmental figures. This included a deep dive into our energy measurement systems, verification of data sources such as meter readings and invoices, and an analysis of our sustainability reporting.
As part of this audit, Achilles assessed a range of sustainability metrics, including:
- Business mileage – Tracking travel emissions from company vehicles.
- Fuel consumption – Measuring diesel and petrol usage.
- Air travel – Evaluating flights taken for business purposes.
- Accommodation – Monitoring the environmental impact of hotel stays.
- Freight emissions – Reviewing both upstream and downstream logistics, including which freight companies we use.
- Water and wastewater management – Analysing consumption via water meters.
- Waste management – Assessing how we handle general waste and recycling efforts.
Following our successful certification, we now have a comprehensive carbon inventory and management report. This allows our customers to access detailed insights into our carbon footprint and sustainability figures, ensuring full transparency in our environmental performance.

Our Continued Commitment to Sustainability
As part of our ongoing sustainability strategy, we have set clear carbon reduction targets and are actively planning new initiatives to further lower our environmental impact. We remain committed to developing and implementing innovative solutions to reduce our carbon footprint and drive positive change across the industry. This certification is a testament to our dedication, and we look forward to building on this achievement with even greater sustainability initiatives in the future.
A Sustainable Approach to Asset Management
We actively encourage customers to adopt a sustainable asset management approach. Rather than defaulting to full replacements, we work closely with clients to repair, refurbish, and reuse existing assets wherever possible.
By extending the life of valves and penstocks through professional refurbishment, we can help customers achieve significant carbon savings—often exceeding 50% compared to new product replacements. This not only reduces environmental impact but also delivers cost savings and enhances operational efficiency.
